Step 1: Who were the Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses?
Begin by watching the short video below about the Greek gods and goddesses.
Discussion Questions:
- Which Ancient Greek gods and goddesses have you heard of before watching this video? What gods and goddesses are new?
- Which powers of the gods and goddesses did you find most interesting? Why?
- As a group, make a prediction about how these Ancient Greek gods and goddesses influenced Ancient Greek life and culture.
Step 2: Research your Ancient Greek God or Goddess
After your teacher assigns your group a god or goddess, you will be using online resources to learn about the family history, personality characteristics, and powers that he/she possesses! Below you will find websites that include information about the gods and goddesses. Check out each site and search for your assigned god or goddess. You will need to use your online research skills to search for and find the information you are looking for. See the list below for exactly what you need to find out about your god or goddess.

Each research team is split up according to jobs you will have as you begin the research process. The jobs are:
**To create a new Google Doc on Chromebooks:
- Click on the Google Docs icon (a blue rectangle with white lines on it) located on the task bar on the bottom left of the screen
- Click on the blue circle with a plus sign on it located in the bottom right of the window to create a new document
- Give your document a title - your new document name should be "Research on [your god/goddess name]". For example, if you are researching Zeus, name your document "Research on Zeus".
- Your Google Doc will automatically save on your Google Drive
What do we need to research?
Working with your team, it is your job to find the following information about your god/goddess:
- Powers - what powers does your god/goddess have? What do they control in the human world?
- Symbols - every god/goddess has a symbol that represents them and their powers. What symbols does your god/goddess have?
- Claim to Fame - complete the following statement about your god/goddess: God of ____________ OR Goddess of ___________
- Family History - who are the parents and siblings of your god/goddess?
- Roman Name - every Greek god has a Roman name in Roman mythology. What is the name of your Greek god in Roman mythology?
- Weaknesses - what are the weaknesses of your god/goddess? What emotions or attitudes make your god weak?

Team Member Responsibilities:
Each research team is split up according to jobs you will have as you begin the research process. The jobs are:
- Concept Map Manager - responsible for leading the creation of the concept map for your god/goddess (See Step 3 for instructions). This person will be in control of the computer/keyboard and will type the information on to the concept map on their computer while the other team members help.
- Google Doc Scribe - responsible for recording and saving the important information found through the online research in a Google Doc. This group member will save the group's Google Doc on their computer.

Step 3: God/Goddess Concept Map
Now that you've learned all of this new information about your god/goddess, it is time to organize it in a visual format that will help you later in creating new myths.

Creating a Concept Map using text2mindmap:
You are ready to create a concept map about your god/goddess! The following instructions will be completed on the computer of the Concept Map Manager. This person will be in charge of controlling the computer while the other group members help by watching and following along. The Google Doc Scribe will need to have the information collected from Step 2 ready to tell the Concept Map Manager so he/she can type the information on the concept map.
We will be using an online concept map maker called text2mindmap. Creating a concept map using technology is slightly different than writing it on a piece of paper, so carefully read the instructions on how to create a concept map when you first go to the website. Remember, a mind map is not a written essay - the nodes should only include short phrases or sentences for each category.

After completing the concept map, it is the Concept Map Manager's responsibility to save the concept map and email it to the teacher following the steps below.
